What shots does my puppy/dog need?

Because so many vaccinations are available, selecting which ones are best depends somewhat on your location. Different diseases are more prevalent in certain regions, and the vaccine should be one that will protect your dog against illnesses he is likely to come in contact with. But no matter where you live, two vaccinations are an absolute necessity: the ones for canine distemper and canine parvovirus. Canine distemper and canine parvovirus are deadly diseases common to every region. All dogs should be vaccinated for protection against them. When your dog reaches 4 months, he should also get his first rabies vaccine. A single injection will give him protection from this disease for one year.

                                     Other vaccines to consider include protections against kennel cough (Bordatella) and Coronavirus, which can cause gastroenteritis. Ask the                                              veterinarian what his recommendations are for your area.
